Symptoms

Diabetes often is often undiagnosed because most of its symptoms seem harmless or does not appear right away. Early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes. Here are the symptoms that you can look out for and inform your doctor or local health provider on your next visit.

The classical triad of diabetes symptoms is polyuria, polydipsia and polyphagia, which are, respectively, frequent urination, increased thirst and consequent increased fluid intake, and increased appetite. Symptoms may develop quite rapidly (weeks or months) in type 1 diabetes, particularly in children. However, in type 2 diabetes symptoms usually develop much more slowly and may be subtle or completely absent.
